Building trust with the regional government
On Nov 19th, GPY hosted a small-circle tea reception in honour of His Excellency U Phyo Min Thein, Chief Minister of Yangon Region and one of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi's closest advisors, at The Peninsula Hong Kong.
The Chief Minister presented his vision for Yangon’s development. His administration aims at improving Yangon’s infrastructure, including building a new airport, upgrading public transport system, along with the set-up of special economic zones. He said Hong Kong’s successful track record has good value for reference.
Former Chief Secretary for Administration Stephen Lam, a GPY champion, welcomed the delegation and encouraged the exchange between civil servants of the two cities. Lam highlighted Hong Kong’s role in supporting the opening-up of Mainland China and now could potentially share a role in Yangon’s development.
The reception was attended by GPY champions, including former Secretary for Development Chai-kwong Mak and former Secretary for the Civil Service Paul Tang, as well as local business leaders who share an interest in Myanmar. Cyrus Pun of Yoma Strategic Holdings Limited kindly sponsored the venue.
